And now for Granny...

My next three great granny blocks are finished...

I am enjoying the scrappy look these are achieving. I have three more to go and can start putting this little quilt together.

According to Lori's great granny block instructions, the blocks are the baby (center), the mama, the granny and the great granny. So to celebrate the granny round this time, here are very old photos of my grandmother and grandfather.

I never knew my grandfather as he died before I was born. I did however know my grandmother very well. She was the sweetest lady and I just loved her. She was an amazing crocheter and I am hoping to do half as well as she did. I think her talent with her hands was passed down through the generations. I loved spending time with her. I think the thing she felt most strongly that she achieved in life was seeing her family thrive...her own daughters with families of their own. She loved being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was a love made us all feel secure and happy with her at the helm.

  2. Yep, that's my Mom and Dad. I loved them both so much. My Dad died when your Sister was only a few months old. The day he died, my Mom said he thought she was sitting on the floor near him. Ironic that she died so young. He also got to enjoy Bill and the other Grandkids. He would have loved you, just as my Mom loved you. You do have her talent for sure and so does Kristy.
It is going to be a very fine quilt. Maybe you can hang it near your machine, Florence.
    Love you, Mom

  4. Heidi, I love your granny blocks. I just finished visiting Lori's blog, I really liked her tutorial on how to make these. This will definitely become a project for the future...grins...I too have been thinking about my Grandmother alot lately. Her mother died when she was 8 years old and her and her younger sister Elinor were seperated and adopted by different families.I have been thinking about making a sampler with all the initials of my relatives in it...so my children don't forget....hmmm something to think about. Here is a hug from CA. I hope you are okay. Things have been crazy here this past month or so but I will be sending an email soon. You are such a dear friend!
