<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a photo tutorial to make your very own fabric tree.....</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyyPcMy7eaimI70lqyPjPJOoVTxl7QV0U0MjjvUTigmLyIzv6w_X8RcBcxXbbv_ozwz-t3dwBm0JRETtJV2Y149_S4t4NtOS-8TvkAKpcsgr7A4OIR4R0QDWb4UJvblMCwLV4cQttAEBAv/s1600/DSCN4044PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyyPcMy7eaimI70lqyPjPJOoVTxl7QV0U0MjjvUTigmLyIzv6w_X8RcBcxXbbv_ozwz-t3dwBm0JRETtJV2Y149_S4t4NtOS-8TvkAKpcsgr7A4OIR4R0QDWb4UJvblMCwLV4cQttAEBAv/s320/DSCN4044PM.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Saw a piece of branch and drill a hole in the middle. Glue in a 35cm/14inch dowel. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCfQyJ6085w4HA6qQhTbsMwGZGj7lUygKmrK5W_SPO2dTKfL6RwuQrd1J633V3wixFswLc5oPgkrkLBFCy3d5uBI9LlX9FnYRwMLNrRgoX_8EX3qYYXJJvUXtkhQ1SWlbnn9x5vfr1p7Up/s1600/DSCN4036PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCfQyJ6085w4HA6qQhTbsMwGZGj7lUygKmrK5W_SPO2dTKfL6RwuQrd1J633V3wixFswLc5oPgkrkLBFCy3d5uBI9LlX9FnYRwMLNrRgoX_8EX3qYYXJJvUXtkhQ1SWlbnn9x5vfr1p7Up/s320/DSCN4036PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You will need 5 fabrics for the tree. You can create a template from newspaper to get the shape right for each fabric. The sample is done using 5 fat quarters which were stacked and cut at once to give me extra fabric for 5 trees in total. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
4.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-XrSD663CVT2i8QPF3EdGq84qYPNYZ1hXnVxP-yMKVywNBlChbMLNasUNhV27P5KEO2nAPEseLJLs_Ht8H-T2VR7bGtchxifZ7-0yuXUKmU6DvmC0zrR6O-jSWkgBRXy6DJjf-dHbWSY1/s1600/DSCN4037PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-XrSD663CVT2i8QPF3EdGq84qYPNYZ1hXnVxP-yMKVywNBlChbMLNasUNhV27P5KEO2nAPEseLJLs_Ht8H-T2VR7bGtchxifZ7-0yuXUKmU6DvmC0zrR6O-jSWkgBRXy6DJjf-dHbWSY1/s320/DSCN4037PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First discard a triangle at the bottom of the stack if you are using all 5 at once. This should measure 15 to 17 inches on the wide side of the triangle.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
5.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs1gu4NfuorDU7zvB7vi65mg13MTiatAHv_B0RiULD1lS_Cyifq8rbbcls0I7zqIe9YjV8P0lE6IJS6nDpwGp39dXKnQ4j3Hyt6iVhB2owJ-3NuWdAg9eqtb6zcfbwtxxAjT_RN4NT7aF0/s1600/DSCN4038PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs1gu4NfuorDU7zvB7vi65mg13MTiatAHv_B0RiULD1lS_Cyifq8rbbcls0I7zqIe9YjV8P0lE6IJS6nDpwGp39dXKnQ4j3Hyt6iVhB2owJ-3NuWdAg9eqtb6zcfbwtxxAjT_RN4NT7aF0/s320/DSCN4038PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now cut the remainder of the fabrics in 5 strips of varying widths. This is done is any way you prefer but I recommend you do vary the strips to add interest. If you make a paper template. Cut the newspaper to 50cm x 55cm/20 inches x 22 inches. Cut off the bottom as shown in the previous step and then cut strips of paper in various widths. Use these strips for each of the fabrics you wish to use in your tree. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
6.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_7r8OkhuHRr1d-w66NMa4eYj4rt0FvRsejVArxOgJlN_7B-gzD5gUVOsCJVJlW_q5ZzMwDoklGbUZZW8-c2_Xd3eWrJ9nU3WBwxM5G4UEkFLWd3BxKIpefXNOiygx996kya_1P3LxEmqi/s1600/DSCN4039PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_7r8OkhuHRr1d-w66NMa4eYj4rt0FvRsejVArxOgJlN_7B-gzD5gUVOsCJVJlW_q5ZzMwDoklGbUZZW8-c2_Xd3eWrJ9nU3WBwxM5G4UEkFLWd3BxKIpefXNOiygx996kya_1P3LxEmqi/s320/DSCN4039PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sew the strips in order and lay with right sides together. The strips are not even at this point. Cut along the long side (these are the long diagonals of the fabric to the right and left in photo 5) to make an even seam and sew this seam. This will be the back seam of your tree. Notice the shorter diagonal line (left side of fabrics on photo 6) is not used yet as this will become the bottom seam in the next step. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
7.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibKjuOyaasu7je21PxinSnBxzrS_pbzYOPzPLQWC1hN5d-r0luGChyhwExoFEXlk-0zcWQLyfRG_I_5ixXOd54DuC-UJzwMqQNMWLm0CWehTqj41KuvwloatAXuOeEgrsgs2OKYZiiLDv_/s1600/DSCN4040PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibKjuOyaasu7je21PxinSnBxzrS_pbzYOPzPLQWC1hN5d-r0luGChyhwExoFEXlk-0zcWQLyfRG_I_5ixXOd54DuC-UJzwMqQNMWLm0CWehTqj41KuvwloatAXuOeEgrsgs2OKYZiiLDv_/s320/DSCN4040PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once the back seam is sewn you will center the seam at the back of the piece and lay this flat with right sides together. The two shorter diagonal sides now form a straight line. Trim this seam (photo 7) to create a nice straight seam.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
8.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8XrpamqcrZ2kEyJH9wNblHjXNaJc7KygMGbyvySgsaXlyPN-HmOoPc31FpKhFELrgneTS_0IlPNPIvSfJLxEqPvt9TRnDLnJ9w-ruxuhyphenhyphenMg-QoLVMi3IYFk7wBazP9pj3uIEScSaTmr1U/s1600/DSCN4043PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8XrpamqcrZ2kEyJH9wNblHjXNaJc7KygMGbyvySgsaXlyPN-HmOoPc31FpKhFELrgneTS_0IlPNPIvSfJLxEqPvt9TRnDLnJ9w-ruxuhyphenhyphenMg-QoLVMi3IYFk7wBazP9pj3uIEScSaTmr1U/s320/DSCN4043PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For this bottom seam, you will want to use a 1/2 inch seam allowance instead of the typical 1/4 inch to give you extra fabric to hand sew the opening later. Leave an opening about a hand's width in the middle of the bottom seam for stuffing. This means you will need to sew a separate seam both to the left and right side of the bottom.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
9.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsX0XY1j4lBlMAP8gBevui3yXPH4mgpMTwKjAVyn1IrwoQgq02B62W-VcU6PNw877Ho8xAvl6bZLKoCO9RHhJc8lr9a6cDEHOUpEDslTWmJwtNvzHiOWC8cqNn0IOcMmqoesQj_nCn2lp0/s1600/DSCN4041PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsX0XY1j4lBlMAP8gBevui3yXPH4mgpMTwKjAVyn1IrwoQgq02B62W-VcU6PNw877Ho8xAvl6bZLKoCO9RHhJc8lr9a6cDEHOUpEDslTWmJwtNvzHiOWC8cqNn0IOcMmqoesQj_nCn2lp0/s320/DSCN4041PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The front of the tree has straight seams (photo 9). </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
10.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijcZ6kVC-C5yGNvfzxNX_EmJdDi203_De5e-8Ojzfcui8cz2I_wCk8j9wrsPNskd4LQ6hVfHKKDcn2vEhztbNptFKmTDmB5OaZQIr-ax9OjiUX9AOALuKghhKvpIi-t-qAmTHmJSivuRVZ/s1600/DSCN4042PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijcZ6kVC-C5yGNvfzxNX_EmJdDi203_De5e-8Ojzfcui8cz2I_wCk8j9wrsPNskd4LQ6hVfHKKDcn2vEhztbNptFKmTDmB5OaZQIr-ax9OjiUX9AOALuKghhKvpIi-t-qAmTHmJSivuRVZ/s320/DSCN4042PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The back of the tree has a diagonal seam running through the middle (photo 10).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Stuff the tree. This does not need to be hard. I use Ikea <span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 12px;">SLÅN </span>pillow which I cut open. The filling of this pillow is perfect for crafts and much more economical for me here in Holland. Use what you prefer. I ended up using half the filling for my tree which is 225 grams of filling.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Early in July was our yearly celebration of Christmas in July for my quilt group. We had a salad bar set up by half the group. They did a fabulous job and the table was overflowing with delicious choices to put a salad together! It was hard to choose what you wanted. During dinner, I raffled off gifts under the Christmas tree. One of the fun things about leading this group is being able to surprise them often with gifts. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8RnX7EQjnV8cVeSBoC5p-hP190yylIKbcS9-RZ1uzsOKwpQrWc8T4G8zr_tfkdzFg3Ipy50LbpyGmx1TxgO00Zl61DijOitONoeoxiKNFE6SxZkYFRUKniSSZvAbBXfJgWGW32sbNQHIm/s1600/CiJuly2015col.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8RnX7EQjnV8cVeSBoC5p-hP190yylIKbcS9-RZ1uzsOKwpQrWc8T4G8zr_tfkdzFg3Ipy50LbpyGmx1TxgO00Zl61DijOitONoeoxiKNFE6SxZkYFRUKniSSZvAbBXfJgWGW32sbNQHIm/s400/CiJuly2015col.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After dinner, we started on our surprise project. They were all asked to bring in a roll of green fabric. I provided the rest needed. There were ladies beavering away at the work tables to create their (Christmas) tree. Some ironed, cut, sorted, pinned and sewed. When the evening was done, we had a forest of trees complete as you can see in the first photo. I will be posting a photo tutorial to make a tree of your own in my next post.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsA9WiOaM8_ih6-EqdqREA_QygyO3HbLSfuHOJf_Yfh85o3XpReLRv1hhbd6aWnMYmy417KWaTtRh9gRdcYQSUns2zSR7nocikwbMp7DzuVggqXvdsGUiqCpLvb4XB_EukNlgWlniEMxSN/s1600/CiJuly2015col2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsA9WiOaM8_ih6-EqdqREA_QygyO3HbLSfuHOJf_Yfh85o3XpReLRv1hhbd6aWnMYmy417KWaTtRh9gRdcYQSUns2zSR7nocikwbMp7DzuVggqXvdsGUiqCpLvb4XB_EukNlgWlniEMxSN/s400/CiJuly2015col2.jpg" width="260" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of the gifts I made was this little sewing butler. I bought an olive dish with a toothpick holder attached. Using a small plate, I cut, sewed and stuffed a circle of fabric. This was then glued into the toothpick holder to create a pincushion. Now it can hold pins and needles while thread and scissors sit in the dish. </div>

This UFO almost got thrown out. I started him and was not happy at all with it. I did not like my fabric used and felt it was not well sewn. But a number of quilt friends and family convinced me to finish him off. I am glad I did because now I love him because he is so different. *grins*</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since I have been good and working on some UFOs, I decided I was going to start on a quilt which has been on my wish list for some years now. I have been wanting to make a Baltimore Album quilt but with a twist. What is that twist? I am using a taupe background fabric instead of white and using all taupe inspired fabrics for the appliqué instead of primary colors. My first block is all but finished...just doing some french knots above the tulips. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have to make some decisions about the setting for the quilt and if I want borders. I have had fun looking at lots of pictures of antique Baltimore Album quilts. I will share more as I progress.</div>

And finally...since you met Ralph...I have to show you something that happened to Miss Pickles the Elf (who masquerades as Heidi ... lol). Last Friday was a really hot day here in Holland. Actually it was tropical at 34C on the terrace of Cranberry Cottage. On the way up north, Miss Pickles spied this truck in front of her. WOW! What a great way to have cool thoughts for an elf in hot weather.....CHRISTMAS TREES!!! </div>

I have really neglected blogging lately. It is a busy time in my home and I seem to run from one thing to the next as well as one project to the next. Here is a little glimpse of what I have been working on...
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioic2DNiIqfl_r8k6iCtP_bnE7V-hQ1IjgOcG6dgnbdpvTmcIo1Cz9YzxpmHTOlib6h1Y5vgazQLPSAmIVRdLuc9WUBOnpYkgBftqMwSImjawPNrJCQoFkCEfXt2SDd67KHiv2J1cDLJTR/s1600/MomShawl2015Col.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioic2DNiIqfl_r8k6iCtP_bnE7V-hQ1IjgOcG6dgnbdpvTmcIo1Cz9YzxpmHTOlib6h1Y5vgazQLPSAmIVRdLuc9WUBOnpYkgBftqMwSImjawPNrJCQoFkCEfXt2SDd67KHiv2J1cDLJTR/s400/MomShawl2015Col.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I crocheted a wrap for my mother who visited us for the month of April. She always comments on <a href="http://stitchedmemoriesintime.blogspot.nl/2013/03/i-can-sing-rainbow.html" target="_blank">my own shawl (click to view)</a> so I wanted to make her one of her own. Her favorite color is red.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4f-tOUbWsxhNmaykszFINOUuNLX74SmafNUNc0i72-19h3xlKyqjrenLJDeVPKo9YP2UpUkhxELPyuM8LyfLmkC5FI9r1klyV7Ao2leD8cCah-MG04z7zLbPdjWKgyGwr8liYYCGctDYb/s1600/BepBday2015Col.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4f-tOUbWsxhNmaykszFINOUuNLX74SmafNUNc0i72-19h3xlKyqjrenLJDeVPKo9YP2UpUkhxELPyuM8LyfLmkC5FI9r1klyV7Ao2leD8cCah-MG04z7zLbPdjWKgyGwr8liYYCGctDYb/s400/BepBday2015Col.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made a one of a kind pincushion as a birthday gift for Bep who is a quilting friend. This was a frame for a picture but it just made me think pincushion. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeL0S52peeEB_nSEuijiMpZ1rkSJcO1xNRCHHyFIG3Itkwjpzy24KQKDruATtdrrvOP5kOonslxe7o7KRxCGZFLlf6ud-dKA1-Ixwpz1E2AcJN-3iixsQNRpG0pY6xpRyrJc_pBt1kvTp2/s1600/DSCN3295PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeL0S52peeEB_nSEuijiMpZ1rkSJcO1xNRCHHyFIG3Itkwjpzy24KQKDruATtdrrvOP5kOonslxe7o7KRxCGZFLlf6ud-dKA1-Ixwpz1E2AcJN-3iixsQNRpG0pY6xpRyrJc_pBt1kvTp2/s400/DSCN3295PM.jpg" width="395" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I joined a quilt themed book club. They sometimes do a quilt along as they read a book. We were rereading The Quilter's Apprentice by Jennifer Chiaverini and they started making Sarah's Sampler. I decided at the 11th hour to make one of my own interpretation. It is using 6 inch blocks and will be done with the garden maze setting. These were the first four blocks and my schoolhouse had to be reworked since then. I realized the next day after making it that doing patchwork when I am having a major FM attack is not a smart thing to do. *sigh* I have made more blocks but don't have a photo yet to share. More later of course...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQwP_E1jO4BH5tZJum-amqxpq0S9fI5QBCfSckUP0t6hFOX0ura33steMeZHrWXKXwfZ6lGrQqhD-9TvLh33iZIdirE2xtt8VRiOA56UerTMndiOJs1Epm2WBJs7oMDm-8kCc8K7EynDTE/s1600/GDVerrasAvond2015Col.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQwP_E1jO4BH5tZJum-amqxpq0S9fI5QBCfSckUP0t6hFOX0ura33steMeZHrWXKXwfZ6lGrQqhD-9TvLh33iZIdirE2xtt8VRiOA56UerTMndiOJs1Epm2WBJs7oMDm-8kCc8K7EynDTE/s400/GDVerrasAvond2015Col.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In April, we had a spring surprise evening for the quilt group. I love these evenings because of the excitement of the ladies as they arrive anxious to see what the project was. They all made a crazy quilt strip as homework. Most thought it was going to become a bookmark but wrong guess. They got 4 small bottles and a birdcage button when they arrived and added a square to the sewn together strip to make a holder for the bottles/vases. Some of the finished holders are shown below. </div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My goal for 15 UFOs is coming along so I will share another finish with you in my next post. Who knows...I might have the next finish done by then too. It is close to being done. But until then, I hope you are having a creative weekend!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In my quest to finish 15 UFOs this year, I added one more finish to my list. This quilt was started back in 2013 for one of <a href="http://humblequilts.blogspot.nl/" target="_blank">Lori at Humble Quilts QALs</a>. Who knows why it sat awaiting only the last strip of sawtooth border and quilting? I will edit my post later and let you know the size. I am at Cranberry Cottage for a quilter's weekend and forgot to measure it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This QAL was all about using on orphan block and creating a quilt around it. This block was left over sample block from my basic patchwork course I taught years ago. You forget over the years that those simple blocks you use to teach quilting are just beautiful blocks. I just love how this little doll quilt turned out! Thanks Lori for encouraging us to grab those orphans and give them a home. </div>

When Wilma and I finished our bearmaking classes, I invited our teacher Annemieke and Wilma to my home for a Teddy Bear High Tea. Of course, those three bears could not be left out! Yona had fun helping met set the table before our guests arrived and left a naughty mess on the table. He put bear paws (in the form of chocolate brownies) and bear poop (chocolate covered peanuts) all over the table. Silly bear!</div>

Being busy with UFOs means less online time for me. My blog has been neglected while my quilting is having a big boost of progress. I finished two UFOs in February. One was the 50 Hearts Jubilee quilt which I already shared and the second is this rag tile quilt. I used this as a sample project last year with our group group's theme of rag applique but did not get the quilt done. Since I set a goal of finishing 15 projects in 2015, this was at the top of the list. A simple and fun quilt to make...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All you need is one charm pack and a piece of background fabric. I pulled out the squares that I wanted to keep whole and then started cutting some of the charms in half for two rectangles and some in 4 small squares. Start placing them on the quilt background to test your placement starting at the top left corner working across and then down. In the end, I had one rectangle and three small squares left over which I used for the quilt label. Pin each piece in place on a quilt sandwich (background fabric placed on top of a piece of batting and backing fabric) as you will be quilting this by sewing each piece in place. Machine sew each piece in place 1/4 inch from the raw edge of each fabric. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have not thrown this in the washing machine and am not sure I will. I might simple keep picking threads here and there to ravel the edges. It would make a great playtime quilt for children using fun fabrics. The biggest job was tucking in all my threads when I was done sewing. </div>

A wish was fulfilled when I took a workshop in bear making this month with <a href="http://quiltingwillempje.blogspot.nl/" target="_blank">Wilma</a>. We arrived early and started on our bears full of expectations. First we choose our fur and traced the pattern. Carefully the fur was cut being sure to keep as much of the bear fuzz as possible in tact as we cut. I was so excited to see the bear's head. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our first day of the workshop was over so quickly and we were so excited to give our bear heads their first drive home. They already had so much personality.....</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Two weeks later...my homework was done and my sweet little bear was ready to go back to the workshop to be finished off.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was quite an operation. My little bear got his eyes followed by legs and arms attached. Then came the excitement of stuffing him. He was almost there. He only needs a nose and mouth and paw markings. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
At the end of the second day, little bear was officially born. He and his brother happily posed for photos.....</div>

A year ago on this very day I turned 50 and started my jubilee quilt. Today a year has passed and I have a lot to be grateful for in life and much to look forward to. My jubilee quilt is finished and hanging in my living room as of yesterday. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I spread out the work on this quilt, appliquéing my hearts throughout the year and in various and fun places. From sewing while in traffic jams to being on vacation these heart blocks hold memories. The last heart was appliquéd with a different fabric than the others and placed in the bottom left hand corner since I am left handed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The quilt was actually done a month earlier but I waited until the last day of my 50th year to sew on the quilt label which is when a quilt is really finished to me. I love The Bronte Sisters but especially Emily so choose a quote from Wuthering Heights to calligraphy on my label. </div>

So today, I am enjoying a relaxing day. Friends came by for coffee and pastries this morning. She even came in the house singing Happy Birthday to me in English. *grins* My husband and I are taking a walk in a local castle grounds and then having dinner out at a favorite restaurant this evening. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This year, I have a goal of finishing 15 UFOs and this counts as the first on my list. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yikes! I have neglected this blog and see this is the first post of the new year while January is already 3 weeks past. But I have not been sitting around....well once in a while with a good book....as I have many goals set for 2015. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First I decided to set two goals for this year with <a href="http://thecranberrychroniclecontinues.blogspot.nl/2015/01/new-yearnew-vignettesnew-goals.html" target="_blank">one being in our home</a> and another with my hobbies. I am striving to finish 15 UFOs this year. I need to make a dent in the quilt tops I have laying around! There is an entire closet with them (I kid you not!) hanging there crying out for some love and attention. This month I want to finish a doll quilt (right photo) from <a href="http://humblequilts.blogspot.nl/2013/10/faithful-quiltalong-lets-go.html" target="_blank">Humble Quilts quiltalong called Faithful</a>. I had to sew on the already made up last two sawtooth borders and then add a last border. It took no time at all and I could sandwich it ready to start quilting this weekend. Why did I put it aside??? I love how it came out! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am also putting the border on my 50 Hearts Jubilee quilt. I want to be ready to sew a quilt label on it on the last day of my 50th year. I am sewing the quilt binding on by hand and then need to make the tunnel before I start to design a label. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwsSfGuVbZUE9I5LibKq1cIukXyxpLbtzLUczIm03TxqmbyQ19feab49pqV1HaZyD8nVwgdMTzEBX3bcZQEA4WBnQOJu6_WMaZ6o57dJ9pEVjFfdnadwI_plnztBlZrm6J4GhInznHxPFp/s1600/CQHuisCol.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwsSfGuVbZUE9I5LibKq1cIukXyxpLbtzLUczIm03TxqmbyQ19feab49pqV1HaZyD8nVwgdMTzEBX3bcZQEA4WBnQOJu6_WMaZ6o57dJ9pEVjFfdnadwI_plnztBlZrm6J4GhInznHxPFp/s1600/CQHuisCol.jpg" height="200" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our quilt group theme starts each year in January. This year we are making crazy quilts. I bought each person a cute Dutch gabled house (from Action) and they used them to practice drawing out their crazy quilt design on muslin and then sewing the block with ribbons or laces of their choice. Here is the sample block. Next month we practice stitches and then they can get started on their quilts. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwEwL4IYVRenZF3gXkzdbXYganM4gZWtxs0y-Xt9OayEKytI0iiGgKB9M9xmnL94POA1Svp0HBcyUCT4ycp59OSrS3yr8huDNVwmzUI4nTj1mo9cPJsBr83c5YEPvbjB6hvWyt0MJzkJPR/s1600/BobbinlaceCol.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwEwL4IYVRenZF3gXkzdbXYganM4gZWtxs0y-Xt9OayEKytI0iiGgKB9M9xmnL94POA1Svp0HBcyUCT4ycp59OSrS3yr8huDNVwmzUI4nTj1mo9cPJsBr83c5YEPvbjB6hvWyt0MJzkJPR/s1600/BobbinlaceCol.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Jannie (no blog) and I have started a new project for our monthly lacemaking afternoons. We are working on <a href="http://www.lokk.nl/kantjevandemaand/kantjevandemaand.php" target="_blank">Kantje Per Maand (Lace per month)</a> which is a 40 month project to celebrate the upcoming 40th anniversary of the LOKK which is the Dutch lace organization. We are on the second lace piece now. When completed, we are sewing the laces onto a piece of linen and then to a wooden bobbin as a lace sampler. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am using my roll lace pillow for this project which is very dear to me. I bought this pillow at a lace market second hand. It was unique in that it had the roll pillow and a small square to use for most kinds of lace. However, it was looking very much the worse for wear. But I recovered the tatty fabric and then put a pretty old Dutch band around the edges. It looks like new again and is pretty just sitting in the living room.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2BKqaDiP9g0HqZwEr-GDBPQtLLTVGSmCXkkSHch8E0I9_6b5KnbvRQ7if6tzOaE3GH9MCbOtdGQrX9NLWny9gwz593hMK5S1fgBG2AvithbM1BNP_rLH8s5SGosPXd-fDQFC8WDRASucs/s1600/HakenSampler.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2BKqaDiP9g0HqZwEr-GDBPQtLLTVGSmCXkkSHch8E0I9_6b5KnbvRQ7if6tzOaE3GH9MCbOtdGQrX9NLWny9gwz593hMK5S1fgBG2AvithbM1BNP_rLH8s5SGosPXd-fDQFC8WDRASucs/s1600/HakenSampler.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last but not least, my friend Mieke (no blog) and I are still working on the <a href="http://winkieflash.nl/scheepjes-cal-2014/" target="_blank">Scheepjes CAL 2014</a>. We decided to give it our own twist. We are making two of each of the blocks posted then adding various other blocks to give us a sampler afghan when it is done. We get together once a week to work in it and enjoy a long lunch together. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The mystery of my advent quilt is revealed today...Christmas Day. Here are the 25 little quilt blocks on the reverse sides. I really enjoyed stitching them all. You can see the other side on <a href="http://stitchedmemoriesintime.blogspot.nl/2014/12/the-advent-of-peace-and-happiness.html" target="_blank">this previous post</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are references to the patterns my quilt group members turned in along with some things dear to my husband and I. A few examples are in the photo below but enlarge the first photo to see all the blocks. The "Joyeux Noel" as my way of saying thank you to the various French sites where I found some designs, a candle in a lantern on the 13th for Santa Lucia as Jos and I lived in Sweden when we were first married, the nativity for the 25th, a pretzel which reminds of the German Weihnachtsmarkts which we love so much and my kitty Dagi and Miss Pickles the Elf. These are just a few of the motiefs I used. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last week was our annual Christmas party for my quilt group. Each year, we have a 3-course dinner which is planned by half of the group members. This year our theme was "Nederlandse Nostalgie" or "Nostalgic Dutch style". We started with old fashioned Dutch vegetable soup with bread and herb butter. Our main course was kale stamppot, hachee (goulash style) meat and a sauerkraut casserole. Dessert followed with ice cream tarts and homemade orange bavarois. We topped our dinner off with coffee or tea served with assorted Christmas chocolates. It was all delicious!</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is quite something to see the tables all set up for 16 people. The feeling of belonging together among this group was very obvious around the table. Christmas cheer was in great attendance and we all had a fun evening.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This year, there were two challenges. The first challenge was for everyone is the group. I gave them each four small squares of various Christmas fabrics from my stash. They all started with those same four fabrics and were asked to make an ornament to be swapped during the dinner. They were allowed to add their own fabrics as long as the original four were in the ornament. Above shows the results of everyone's labor. It was fun to see what they all made. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also had a mug rug swap for those who wanted to do something extra. Names were drawn and you made a mug rug for a specific person. Eleven of us participated and here are the results of everyone's creativity. They all turned out beautifully!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had drawn Bep's name. She loves going on vacation in her caravan so I made her and her husband each a mug rug to use while out travelling in their caravan. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is hard to believe that a another quilt year has passed so quickly. As the year draws to a close, I am working away now on the quilt theme for 2015 for our group. It promises to be a fun year to come.....</div>

Each year, I choose a theme for my quilt group. In December, we have completed our theme ready for a new year. 2014 was the year of a season of trees in rag appliqué technique. For each season, the group used the same background and tree shape but created the season around it. My trees were then sewn into a patchwork window frame to reflect a season in each pane. </div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS2LcjKBUy-1UYDZF1jJ1k-Q-pU0B3T7FjZHezn9UbcvudtcaCdrPAkYWU0HEJfgqMp-kAvT3aD2Q2cemsC0Mc_5rvgkyjOtixOzNnS4HQEyO50A6OszcQm-7Snp2JtKBipbi5Rj2GDXAw/s1600/DSCN2736PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS2LcjKBUy-1UYDZF1jJ1k-Q-pU0B3T7FjZHezn9UbcvudtcaCdrPAkYWU0HEJfgqMp-kAvT3aD2Q2cemsC0Mc_5rvgkyjOtixOzNnS4HQEyO50A6OszcQm-7Snp2JtKBipbi5Rj2GDXAw/s1600/DSCN2736PM.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It seems impossible that December has arrived. I spent the last few months redoing my advent quilt. This quilt had been a project I designed for my quilt group's theme in 2012. Throughout the year, the ladies were allowed to submit pattern ideas for each other to use on the figure side of the little quilts hanging on the large quilt. This quilt became something I could not appreciate any longer after a rift some members of the group caused. I needed to do something to give myself the gift of this quilt back again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I went about carefully taking my blocks apart and redoing them all in red French inspired stitching. I did use the ideas of most of the patterns from the group but in my own way. I am really happy with how it has turned out and it has become a symbol for me of the peace and happiness that Christmas is all about! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For today, I am sharing the number side of the quilt blocks and the first block of December's figure...a house in a winter mountain setting. </div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So as the holiday season begins and we await the arrival of Christmas, I am inspired by the council of many of the quilt group members who have given me wisdom over the past year...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Having lost our new kitten Elwin really threw me off kilter over the summer. <a href="http://stitchedmemoriesintime.blogspot.nl/2014/06/among-roses.html" target="_blank">Click here for the story if you have not already read it</a>. I have been so sad about it and although I throw myself into my handwork I have not been sharing much lately. So I thought I would post a couple of finishes from over the summer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First, the crazy quilt heart is something I made when my cousin Shari and her husband Matt came over to visit. I wanted to make her something she could keep that would also remind her of her visit. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDPLsDaaU37kBz998ShaIxZlSIeTNxVNvxKPwLVAZxAOoZduGTcS_LT1t_3oTv-ciJ6NID7PTCM5tzsrFBTT0brCLtJ4pfA9IRzFG6bMpy743Jdv3FIQ5JZTbm0OTDsg8geJ534oQP0VSn/s1600/PMColRWPillow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDPLsDaaU37kBz998ShaIxZlSIeTNxVNvxKPwLVAZxAOoZduGTcS_LT1t_3oTv-ciJ6NID7PTCM5tzsrFBTT0brCLtJ4pfA9IRzFG6bMpy743Jdv3FIQ5JZTbm0OTDsg8geJ534oQP0VSn/s1600/PMColRWPillow.jpg" height="187" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made a sampler pillow using various red and linen fabrics combined with a fabric with a sampler print, zigzag trim, laces and buttons. Originally I wanted to make this to use out in the garden but when Jos saw it he said I could not use it outside. He thought it was too nice. I put it on our bed instead. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6RUS_dojqwpu8y1MLIiFnNBsTuGwjU8EftFSeNMyp8Omx-2cytwnTrYWAA-A00Bt2_2_KFWCJ9OkcA-prxJHaGiJi5ZILZDjVQOmPxZdLv0-BvEuOWW_3Fng1tvpv_lVBdhLTLWKgyNIk/s1600/PMColSjaal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6RUS_dojqwpu8y1MLIiFnNBsTuGwjU8EftFSeNMyp8Omx-2cytwnTrYWAA-A00Bt2_2_KFWCJ9OkcA-prxJHaGiJi5ZILZDjVQOmPxZdLv0-BvEuOWW_3Fng1tvpv_lVBdhLTLWKgyNIk/s1600/PMColSjaal.jpg" height="400" width="387" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally, I finished a shawl that I was inspired to make <a href="http://creativeyarn.blogspot.nl/2008/02/its-wrap-shawl.html" target="_blank">after seeing this one found via Pinterest</a>. I have been searching for a nice pattern and this was just right for a new kind of yarn at a shop called Zeeman here in Holland. This yarn is so pretty and this vintage pattern was just the thing to show the yarn off. Now all I need it for autumn weather to arrive. *grins*</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw5hKFOqMAkFLnXgYbMmdYQk8a87HF8BvaGxKQlnsLWL8kOpUHJh3qEFszmFF_t-xijPXPnATOswuipOEBgpAvTT1FKy5kBKVoFhgHU3qciGPdjo1JVyG5tyPv5D293pVFelqk8oRm43Lt/s1600/PMColSjaalGaren.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw5hKFOqMAkFLnXgYbMmdYQk8a87HF8BvaGxKQlnsLWL8kOpUHJh3qEFszmFF_t-xijPXPnATOswuipOEBgpAvTT1FKy5kBKVoFhgHU3qciGPdjo1JVyG5tyPv5D293pVFelqk8oRm43Lt/s1600/PMColSjaalGaren.jpg" height="200" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So even though a sad heart has kept me quiet in the blogland, I have had busy hands as you can see.....</div>

Well over a year ago, I joined a CAL on a wonderful French blog, Le Blog PurPle. The <a href="http://leblogpurple.com/2013/03/26/cal-a-blanket-in-the-style-of-vasarely/" target="_blank">pattern was so unique</a> and inspired by the artist Victor Vasarely. First I took my time looking for just the right yarn to use. I decided on Scheepjes Highlands in beige, grey and heather pink. These yarns have a tweed look and are rather heavy. I wanted a tight blanket and used a 5,5mm crochet hook. It measures 107cm/42in x182cm/72in. After sewing together stacks and stacks of diamonds, here is my own Vasarely........</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLlhiJWflVagjvOk5mj5bDvawZ91tgwu6EYjSQ0knr32VgczzfqjNQU3C6ub1uNrb4n2CRHjHBijtKeiK5xrBsTnIV0Z5QrN3SJKhU3qHKjeqG-ABBBXWNIlCJ2cGtR0YIgYY__48cgK6n/s1600/DSCN2078PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLlhiJWflVagjvOk5mj5bDvawZ91tgwu6EYjSQ0knr32VgczzfqjNQU3C6ub1uNrb4n2CRHjHBijtKeiK5xrBsTnIV0Z5QrN3SJKhU3qHKjeqG-ABBBXWNIlCJ2cGtR0YIgYY__48cgK6n/s1600/DSCN2078PM.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used a moss stitch border around the blanket to finish it off........</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am really proud of this project as it was one of the harder ones I have tried due to how much work was involved. It took me much too long and the CAL has long ended but I just love my Vasarely blanket! Thank you Marie-Line for this fabulous pattern........</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Jos and I have been searching for a new kitten lately. The loss of Dagi was hard for us but we have so much love to share with another kitty. In May, I saw the photo below that a breeder posted online. Meet Elwin...a red oriental short hair. He was adorable and it was love at first sight. We arranged to bring him home the day after we returned from a week's vacation in May. I grabbed some yarn from my stash and started on a kitty pod. I used <a href="http://lelogisdegerberoy.free.fr/" target="_blank">this pattern</a> but needed to wire it like a tent to help it keep its shape. Then I made a mattress with some quilt fabric so he would have a "bed of roses".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Ontmoet Elwin: een roodharige orientaalse kat.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBNU4wM9HO06h9PnFuougiCyZ8c5Un3rUiCJat56jcXCFQnOdZNaui3wln3pqxJmAtOSKj_3ij_6vm23WjeR0Hthrd9ntOART6lCxaEHDyMp-EQjwCOvoURaVK7uOyF_V4EZtCNgcUbuUO/s1600/Elwin2SMT.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBNU4wM9HO06h9PnFuougiCyZ8c5Un3rUiCJat56jcXCFQnOdZNaui3wln3pqxJmAtOSKj_3ij_6vm23WjeR0Hthrd9ntOART6lCxaEHDyMp-EQjwCOvoURaVK7uOyF_V4EZtCNgcUbuUO/s1600/Elwin2SMT.jpg" height="338" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The big day arrived and we drove the hour to pick up Elwin. His brother Joep climbed up on my lap and looked at me as if to say "You are not going to take Elwin and leave me here, are you?". So Joep came home to live with us too. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It quickly became apparent that Joep needed a man's strong guiding hand. I was not able to cope with his and he was constantly playing so hard with Elwin that it left Elwin with scabbed scratches. We made the difficult decision after a vet looked at Joep and said his aggression would probably not deminish as he became an adult cat. He was all personality so this was a hard decision to make but he was returned to the breeder. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjwdgD1msSHJy8F1VHuKv9O92JB8zXbtfX7K54yAQJYn8n8Yi7X0CPjhRa0cRgV3th9iRqElPUMHoqkXnbFxXgHH7u3Gf5QcfkZtzut-EtS_r91Z31zy9doqD_S2idlGA3MBV6OB-R3OfW/s1600/DSCN1948SMT.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjwdgD1msSHJy8F1VHuKv9O92JB8zXbtfX7K54yAQJYn8n8Yi7X0CPjhRa0cRgV3th9iRqElPUMHoqkXnbFxXgHH7u3Gf5QcfkZtzut-EtS_r91Z31zy9doqD_S2idlGA3MBV6OB-R3OfW/s1600/DSCN1948SMT.jpg" height="300" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Elwin was sad the first 24 hours and would not eat or drink. He was missing the breeder and his partner. But finally he turned around and he ate very well and followed us all over the house talking away wherever we went. He had the funniest meow which sounded like those friction wind up flash lights. He cuddled day and night. His favorite sleeping spot was laid over my should with his little sweet head on my chest. He went happily back and forth between Jos and I.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Elwin was de eerste 24 uren droevig, hij wilde niet eten of drinken, hij was te gehecht aan de fokker en zijn partner. Echter dit veranderde al snel en werd een echt cuddlebeestje. </i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am using past tense as this is not a story with a happy ending. Sunday he started to get lethargic and stopped eating. He did still drink when we took him to his water. Monday morning, when I awoke he was laying between Jos and I and at first I though he had died. He was alive but breathing very badly. Then I saw his little belly looked strange. I knew it was serious and he was very ill. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Ik gebruik verleden tijd want afgelopen zondag werd hij helemaal lusteloos and stopte met eten. Maandag ochtend dacht ik dat hij dood was, ik wist dat hij erg ziek was.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We called the vet and she had us bring him in. His breathing was more and more distressed and the assistant let me wait with his in a well cooled room. The vet drew stomach fluid to test and came back with horrible news. Elwin had FIP. It is viral disease and was in his stomach and lungs. Cats cannot survive this illness. We had to make the decision to put down a beautiful kitten that was not even 4 months old yet yesterday. It seems so wrong that this little life has passed too soon. He should have had many years here with us. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Elwin is buried our under the bench in our garden. He is right next to Dagi where we can go and sit with them. I am totally heartbroken. I miss him so much even though he was such a short time in our home. He fit in! He was instantly part of the family. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sweet dreams little Elwin out there with Dagi among the roses.........</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Elwin is begraven onder onze tuinbank. Hij ligt naast Dagi waar ik soms naar ze toe kunnen gaan. Ik ben gebroken... Ik mis hem heel erg ook al was hij maar kort bij ons. Hij past perfect bij ons.</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Droom zacht lieve Elwin samen met Dagi en de rozen.</i></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thrilled to bits, I can now show you my finished potholder quilt. I finished it last month the day before we went on vacation. This was my quilt group's theme project last year. I tea dyed muslin which is great fun to do. All my choice of drawings for the stitchery hexies are sewing related. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The back also turned out nice and could be used as well as the front of the quilt. Enlarge the photo or search under potholder quilt to see more details. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Ik heb mijn potholder quilt in mei voordat we weg ging op vakantie afgemaakt.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i><i><i> Achter is ook mooi geworden en kan ook gebruikt worden net als de voorkant. Vergroot de fotos om beter de details te zien of zoek onder potholder quilt. </i></i></i></div>

I made this to use in my studio on the table there but for now it is on the coffee table in the living room. It works well in there too. I am really pleased with how it turned out! I love doing the stitchery as well as making many tiny patchwork blocks to sew into the hexie shapes. </div>

</i></div>

Sometimes you stumble onto a brilliant idea! I was searching for some inspiration for my hexagon quilt that I am making along with my friend <a href="http://www.stitchingsunflower.blogspot.nl/" target="_blank">Sonja</a>. I decided on sewing them together as diamonds to place between red hexies. Here are my first 3 diamonds. Sorry the photo is bad but I took it with my phone to send to Sonja over the Easter weekend.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSVirTDxeeqB_rlXfeXcGj3pjfyDiuoMV6ua7BbJn0qWO01PUloPvafEYdpqt4Bf_2twPIG9GJX3ZgtSlLS2GI8bD504kyZyvQNPVOrQixDlNsHp3btOSgsN00KE_ezZqYUNrIjMshR-7Q/s1600/IMG_20140419_153053PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSVirTDxeeqB_rlXfeXcGj3pjfyDiuoMV6ua7BbJn0qWO01PUloPvafEYdpqt4Bf_2twPIG9GJX3ZgtSlLS2GI8bD504kyZyvQNPVOrQixDlNsHp3btOSgsN00KE_ezZqYUNrIjMshR-7Q/s1600/IMG_20140419_153053PM.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I stumbled on <a href="http://kimonoreincarnate.blogspot.nl/2013/07/the-patchwork-clock-ikea-hack.html" target="_blank">Kimono Reincarnate blog</a> with a fabulous idea! I loved it so much that I drove to IKEA the next morning to buy a Smycke clock and get started. My diamonds would have to wait a little longer...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Ik ben <a href="http://kimonoreincarnate.blogspot.nl/2013/07/the-patchwork-clock-ikea-hack.html" target="_blank">Kimono's reincarnatie blog</a> tegen gekomen met daarin een fantastisch idee. Ik vond het zo goed dat ik direct naar IKEA gegaan ben om deze Smycke klok te kopen en te beginnen. Mijn diamanten moeten maar even wachten.</i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5hbUGuDZtorQhC-wnB1yvrHP2suxRIEtQx96HM8JEGbIu4lBQ7bE_J9MNSIy9lzEYPlkmTMa_8ayvht06BtMi19YuuqlmTjRS1PiFrBwq2NWZ9nk3p3r8HxoI3jbr1PktTlcAsyRML4ww/s1600/DSCN1287PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5hbUGuDZtorQhC-wnB1yvrHP2suxRIEtQx96HM8JEGbIu4lBQ7bE_J9MNSIy9lzEYPlkmTMa_8ayvht06BtMi19YuuqlmTjRS1PiFrBwq2NWZ9nk3p3r8HxoI3jbr1PktTlcAsyRML4ww/s1600/DSCN1287PM.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With various fabrics picked out of my stash, I got to work tracing the hexagons to the exact size for the pieces of the clock. Having the center hexie white didn't look nice with my fabric choices so I carefully snipped the hexie to fit around the clock itself. ModPodge and foam brush in hand along with a couple of hours to sit and glue all the fabrics and this is the result...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

On these days, the group gets a list of items to bring and I have a surprise project for them to start. Sometimes it is a quick and simple project and other times a little more involved as this surprise was. They all came in and took a place at the tables. Then the surprise was revealed.....<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT_OVaPRB5jpWCUyEa4XYv_-v6wAGFH59z0E6v5WcKNxQT6u7YLLKyH7rNEogCEpIZ15cYqGNVuEzKBHGjnA_x30v_CeQ74k8MIrehQF67yQCtnzXK6tW6etYl4aRLCrBhzssnGPVE0O2x/s1600/DSCN1358PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT_OVaPRB5jpWCUyEa4XYv_-v6wAGFH59z0E6v5WcKNxQT6u7YLLKyH7rNEogCEpIZ15cYqGNVuEzKBHGjnA_x30v_CeQ74k8MIrehQF67yQCtnzXK6tW6etYl4aRLCrBhzssnGPVE0O2x/s1600/DSCN1358PM.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a><i><span style="font-size: x-large;"> A little Easter quilt!</span></i><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2zyjAVrhCr6ueGGYlju8O20zGkzSI2OQ7PuVgMqG9TH6Eoo3y6_D36aLoHvb5KZGdIGzSAnqVyRSR8I-o7Ho7MUzdLKiDrSHcjffbkYLje6ZmpFVSpZQ1p1oeqREyI5YQEEFHTyhCtLhZ/s1600/PMColPaasquilt2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2zyjAVrhCr6ueGGYlju8O20zGkzSI2OQ7PuVgMqG9TH6Eoo3y6_D36aLoHvb5KZGdIGzSAnqVyRSR8I-o7Ho7MUzdLKiDrSHcjffbkYLje6ZmpFVSpZQ1p1oeqREyI5YQEEFHTyhCtLhZ/s1600/PMColPaasquilt2014.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The quilt is based on a sweet little design I saw in an Anna magazine. What I liked about this one is that each person can play with the elements in the design to create something for themselves. It is done on a piece of linen using the addition of ricrac, ribbons and buttons. The "brick" borders are added and it can be quilted. Can you find the little butterfly that I quilted in mine?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mieke and I had spent a quilt weekend at Cranberry Cottage. It was there that she bought the magazine and I changed my plans for our surprise evening to do this. Mieke made a sample quilt along with me and hers was also ready to show (see photo below).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</i></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The ladies were very quiet at times as they worked away with needle and thread. There are some really cute quilts that will be made over the next couple of weeks. I am excited to see them at our next meeting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our group has grown once again. We welcomed 4 new members to the group last night. What a start for them to have this surprise project on their first night! Welcome to Ineke, Dinie, Hannie en Corrina. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>De dames waren af en toe stil van het werken met naald en draad. Ik kijk er naar uit om de quilts van hun te kunnen bewonderen bij de volgende quilavond. </i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

All around us the trees are starting to bloom. As I also was teaching my quilt group to make rag appliqué blossoms on Wednesday, I got out my crocheted cherry blossoms and put them on branches in a jug on the table where we worked. The pattern can be found <a href="http://melibondre.com/blog/?p=885" target="_blank">here</a>. </div>

</i></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tuesday again and time to show some progress on my Mood Blanket. I just added a lilac/creative square. Yesterday was purple again and it made me think of Marsha's sweet comment. She said she wished she could visit me on purple days. That would be fun! But I also need to explain about the purple/lonely squares. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am never lonely...it is just a rare thing for me to feel if you use it in the sense that most do. For me the lonely days are the days that Jos is working out of the country. This year has seen him constantly running to Switzerland or England. Each departure day has been marked by a purple square. One is not marked since he had to go to London for a meeting. He flew over and back in the time he would normally be away at his office and was back home for dinner. That was a happy day as I did not have to miss him. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am linking to <a href="http://www.hazelscrochet.co.uk/" target="_blank">Hazel's blog</a> today with my progress...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is spring here in Holland! We have been having some beautiful sunny days. I decided to go sit outside and work on my heart jubilee quilt today. Danielle thought I was using wool fabric and did not have a seam allowance. It is not wool but woven Japanese fabrics. Many years ago, I bought some at De Lander is Bruges, Belgium. They were put away knowing one day I would have a special project to use them for and this heart quilt was just the right one. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Het is lente! </i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ_i-HuvUWGN4gz1mN_5D2namkDpaLokhegl_c_TlmP8yMvxYOClds3HxBrRtKjcLyE6q8fEilg4cBRJwmWXF5jUPyhg9bM5rvIPpLO2jd0p_tgUAroVLvZUvy-Q6djXs7jGBuB5i5eEkW/s1600/DSCN1221PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ_i-HuvUWGN4gz1mN_5D2namkDpaLokhegl_c_TlmP8yMvxYOClds3HxBrRtKjcLyE6q8fEilg4cBRJwmWXF5jUPyhg9bM5rvIPpLO2jd0p_tgUAroVLvZUvy-Q6djXs7jGBuB5i5eEkW/s1600/DSCN1221PM.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am using a simple method to appliqué my hearts. First trace the heart on the back of the fabric. With a really sharp small pair of scissors, clip the seams all the way around the heart. The cuts must be deep stopping just before the drawn line. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Ik gebruik een makkelijk methode om te appliqueren. Teken de hart aan de achterkant van de stof. Met een scherpe schaar knipjes geven tot net voor de getekende lijn.</i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTCYjqONXK8ISMVXCyy0C6CDsAyyMN3nDgvJ0x7evvipaaHEaHNSgR0-V6zGmEh-RTfmR_sgZAEx6QGLggypMas4mjJ1PyBTHV4aDAI2MeLxPbVidS7pLNi6tB5KIhT31Mh_wFtLj1PB4L/s1600/DSCN1232PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTCYjqONXK8ISMVXCyy0C6CDsAyyMN3nDgvJ0x7evvipaaHEaHNSgR0-V6zGmEh-RTfmR_sgZAEx6QGLggypMas4mjJ1PyBTHV4aDAI2MeLxPbVidS7pLNi6tB5KIhT31Mh_wFtLj1PB4L/s1600/DSCN1232PM.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using a glue pen, trace the line just inside the drawn line. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Met een lijmpen trek je een lijn net binnen de getekende lijn. </i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXmStEsCX-aknZsPPHj9iGaIKkDqFMw1K-ZvxpeuR_-LgaI00vt8eK0RLEKixOC8koE6wEdUtuMlttkaaSPehK9DrMrHVMhwJYnjEfxTrVKGLuwdnbk-fVbioFo0sghbjIFBj2laiEEn60/s1600/DSCN1222PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXmStEsCX-aknZsPPHj9iGaIKkDqFMw1K-ZvxpeuR_-LgaI00vt8eK0RLEKixOC8koE6wEdUtuMlttkaaSPehK9DrMrHVMhwJYnjEfxTrVKGLuwdnbk-fVbioFo0sghbjIFBj2laiEEn60/s1600/DSCN1222PM.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now using a seam ripper, press on the drawn line and fold the seam over onto the glue line. This method give you a nice sharp edge to then hand appliqué your heart to the background fabric. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Met een tornmesje druk je tegen de lijn en vouw je de naad naar binnen over de lijm heen. Jij hou een scherpe rand over om te kunnen appliqueren met de hand. </i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A few weeks ago, I celebrated my 50th birthday. Wow...when did that happen??? I certainly don't feel 50 but then what is 50? I loved <a href="http://treadleworksbytammy.blogspot.nl/" target="_blank">Tammy's</a> quilt for her 50th birthday so much that our quilt group made our own versions of her potholder quilt. But I knew I wanted to make my own jubilee quilt. So I thought about what block I would make. It has to work with 50 blocks and I did not want to make a large quilt. I want this to be a quilt I can hang and enjoy for years to come. So after having a Winnie the Pooh moment...think, think, think...I came up with hearts. 50 hearts...one for each year I have lived and loved.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Vervolgens dacht ik aan 50 harten ...een voor elk jaar. </i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3E6x7CSVxMjik5xhiPMq-DXe7BCOmhourJHJmJYaxftLgwOrIqBX2t9avbeuNQWZZskncjyjhhFBuEorRoPesf0xStru-taYadAhz8j1Cz-UsEsDcP-gddq-f87LQDnkdo5rOC_ElR_ol/s1600/PMCol50thBirthday.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3E6x7CSVxMjik5xhiPMq-DXe7BCOmhourJHJmJYaxftLgwOrIqBX2t9avbeuNQWZZskncjyjhhFBuEorRoPesf0xStru-taYadAhz8j1Cz-UsEsDcP-gddq-f87LQDnkdo5rOC_ElR_ol/s1600/PMCol50thBirthday.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I worked on it full swing while we were away for a few days over my birthday. I worked in the car, at the two B&Bs we stayed in, and later while away at Cranberry Cottage with a quilt friend. There were hearts showing up everywhere...even on a piece of cheesecake and on our coffee in a German cafe. *grins*</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
:)</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3avmvmlRuXphTIVQRlLbghH-hmYxlNRDDIfR3h5vf-BGCGmV1jdtCWWgz08enAESYgQR1phYbu0uKyNc5cri0IcS2CFp0cFxTftmtghQT3n-5QaEOCQ1LT8A0D7Yl5ZU-ed1AMeD6NQYt/s1600/DSCN1209PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3avmvmlRuXphTIVQRlLbghH-hmYxlNRDDIfR3h5vf-BGCGmV1jdtCWWgz08enAESYgQR1phYbu0uKyNc5cri0IcS2CFp0cFxTftmtghQT3n-5QaEOCQ1LT8A0D7Yl5ZU-ed1AMeD6NQYt/s1600/DSCN1209PM.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So far I have 15 hearts appliquéd and am loving making them. I keep a tray next to me on the couch to pick them up whenever I sit. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Tot nu toe heb ik 15 hartjes geappliqueerd. Het is hartstikke leuk om te doen. Ik hou een dienblad naast mij op de bank om steeds weer een paar steekjes te maken. </i></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While visiting <a href="http://www.lemondedesucrette.com/" target="_blank">Angie's lovely blog</a> to look up her ripple pattern at the beginning of the year, I saw she started a fun new project. The crochet mood blanket was just right for the basket of yarn scraps that I intended to use up this year. Each day you crochet and add a square to the blanket using the color to describe your mood. I put aside my ripple project for now as I decided this would be too much fun to pass up. The ripple had to be put aside as I have been working on another blanket as a part of a CAL but more about that later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is my mood blanket up to yesterday. Jos helped me using an Excel sheet to choose how long my rows would be. It would never come out just right with 365 blocks. I have 7 blocks left in the end. I am using them up in the blanket by making a larger block for my birthday, Jos' birthday and our anniversary. See the big block? It was for my birthday back on February 12th. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgteA1PKDEqQz0Oxj14vuT_CcxxASCgaxkG81DuvjVcNQFcFHdMcbVd6cYxc2B-eKgGE88ppUV55Ib7-QGQlLBjD3GC7fvOiv4TxBeqA5jK4Her_l4FtpLIo8JcQd2ir7i9f001MkH_7Yd/s1600/DSCN1179PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgteA1PKDEqQz0Oxj14vuT_CcxxASCgaxkG81DuvjVcNQFcFHdMcbVd6cYxc2B-eKgGE88ppUV55Ib7-QGQlLBjD3GC7fvOiv4TxBeqA5jK4Her_l4FtpLIo8JcQd2ir7i9f001MkH_7Yd/s1600/DSCN1179PM.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the selection of yarn that I have left from previous blankets. First I created a list of colors and then gave a mood to each color. Funny but when I first came up with the list, my mother laughed and said "So you don't want to use the color" when I told her what mood some would be. I scraped the idea of bored since she was right about that. But so far I have not had any pink in my blanket either. *grins*</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My Mood list:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Blue - sad</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pink - worried</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Red - angry</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lilac - creative</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Purple - lonely</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Eggplant - very busy</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Grey - tired or sick</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cream - balanced</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Gold - inspired</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Orange - blessed</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Camel - uncertain</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Beige - disconnected</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Brown - happy or excited</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Green - contented</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Denim blue - connected</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been asked when people see the blanket what brown is and why I picked it for being happy or excited. I love brown! It is a color that all colors work well with...it is the color of earth and all the beauty of trees and flowers that grow from it...it is the base from which our food grows...in short brown is a beautiful color to me. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank you for still stopping by to visit when I was away for so long. I was happy to see comments from many of my old friends lately. We were very comforted by the many comments about Dagi crossing the rainbow bridge. He is so missed in our home. </div>
